Where to Obtain CRM License Keys?
March 19, 2008 13:18 by menno

I have seen several great posts regarding the License Keys of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, however, not all are 100% accurate or apply for all of the editions and/or channels. Please take a look at the below matrix. It has up-to-date information as to how to obtain license keys for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. It includes the various editions, means of obtaining the code and media provided.

Thanks for the clarification Menno! It can be quite confusing to figure out where to go to get licenses for different scenarios. BTW, what is "pre-pidded"?

Hi Matt, pre-pidded is just a fancy word to explain that the license key is embedded in the media.

Thank you for the where to find your license key guide. I am a Volume License subscriber with SA, and still can't find how to download my software for CRM 4.0 (which I now - thanks to you - understand contains a file with my license keys)- Why can't Dynamics just conform to the same licensing system as all my other Microsoft Volume licenses?

Hi Fred, if you are a VL customer you can download the media via MVLS (which include the key code) or you can order the dvd media if thats desired.

Do I need to use separate license keys for the Outlook-based version?

Anastasiya, once you have a CAL (Client Access License) a user can use the webclient and/or the Outlook client.

Let's say you setup a client with the 90-day Trial and now want to activate it using a eOpen license which is "Pre-Pidded" (donno what that means)...

Is there a way to extract the key from the media?

Stephen, pre-pidded means that the license key is embedded in the media. You can find a file called license.txt on the CD/DVD.

Thanks guys!
